Project Statement (in German):
Phase III Wien, 23.02.2018 – 18.03.2018

Wir sind drei freischaffende KünstlerInnen, die sich während ihres Kunststudiums zwischen 2011 und 2015 an der Gerrit Rietveld Akademie in Amsterdam kennen gelernt haben. Wir leben und arbeiten an drei unterschiedlichen Orten (Zürich, Amsterdam und Wien) doch werden für den Zeitraum zwischen 23. Februar und 18. März 2018 unsere im Vorjahr begonnene künstlerische Zusammenarbeit nun in vorAnker fortsetzen.
Die in den Räumlichkeiten der Residency entstandenen Arbeiten werden am Ende unseres Aufenthalts, genauer am 15. März, im Rahmen einer Gruppenausstellung präsentiert werden. Unsere Projektreihe führt uns von Ost nach West: letzten Sommer waren wir in Sofia, wo wir Veranstaltungen und eine Ausstellung organisiert haben; im Dezember ging es nach Skopje und heuer beginnen wir die dritte Projektphase in vorAnker in Wien. In Phase III werden die Aspekte eines physischen/körperlichen Zugehörigkeitsgefühls im Rahmen unseres Hauptthemas Heimat behandelt. Da Stadtbilder im ständigen Wandel begriffen sind und sich auch das Wiener Stadtbild unter dem zunehmenden Einfluss von globalen wirtschaftlichen Dynamiken verändert, werden wir hier unsere Recherche fortsetzen und uns dabei auf die Rolle der Architektur im Prozess der Identitätsbildung konzentrieren. Die Fragen, die sich aus den schnellen Veränderungen von Stadtteilen ergeben, sei es in Form der sogenannten Gentrifizierung oder des Verschwindens der historischen „natürlich gewachsenen“ Bausubstanz, interessieren uns auch auf künstlerischer und persönlicher Ebene. Wie erlebt ein Körper diese Veränderungen, wenn seine Beziehung zum physischen Raum nicht nur durch direkten physischen Kontakt entsteht, sondern auch durch persönliche Erinnerungen oder einem Gedächtnis in Form von Geschichte?

„Zimmer, Küche, Kabinett“ is a group show by the artist collective – A Decorated Room with Invaded Ideas – and with works by the invited guests: Pavel Naydenov (BG), Enrico Tomassini (IT) and David Elias Schilling (DE).
The works are going to be presented at the artist residency vorAnker.
A Decorated Room with Invaded Ideas is a research-based project initiated and realized by three artists: Eline
Tsvetkova (NL/BG) Jakob Ehrlich (AT) and Anastasija Pandilovska (MK/NL). The series of projects are carried out in five phases in five different cities in a stretch from East to West: Sofia, Skopje, Vienna, Zurich, and Amsterdam.
Focusing on the different notions of “home” and the word “Heimat” in the broader European context – A Decorated Room with Invaded Ideas – concentrates on the intercultural dialogue, with an intention to research the different linguistic and geographical regions on the topic. Therefore, our starting research question is:
Can we ground our belonging to geographical coordinates merely?
Phase III of our series of projects addresses the aspects of a physical/bodily sense of belonging within the framework of our overall theme “Heimat”. Moving from Skopje (Phase II) towards Vienna, animated by the project “Skopje 2014” initiated by the former Macedonian government that fully changed the look and the identity of the city, discussing the impact that the unstable, decorative new architecture has on the inhabitants emotionally and physically we continued analyzing the architectural and bodily implications of belonging to a city and a culture. Noticing that Vienna, has begun to rebuild under the increasing influence of the economic dynamics implied by late-capitalism, we aim to foreground the role that architecture plays in the process of identity formation, exemplified by concrete examples taken from the cityscapes of Vienna. How does a body experience these changes when its relation to physical space is not only through direct physical contact but also through personal memory or memory in form of history?
